Synopsis

Dark Sector is a futuristic shooter starring a character infected by a biological virus, imbuing him with mysterious powers. Black-ops soldier Hayden Tenno contracted the disease while on a covert mission to the fictitious Eastern European country of Lasria. Hayden's left arm has since mutated into something not quite human. Attached to this abnormal appendage is a three-blade glaive that can be charged and thrown at enemies or objects like a boomerang. Stunned enemies can then be finished off with well-aimed gunshots, or sliced open by using the glaive as a melee weapon. As Hayden struggles to find a way out of his predicament, the virus will gradually take over his body, granting him new abilities along the way. The action in Dark Sector is viewed from a third-person perspective set behind the lead protagonist's shoulder, with the screen free from heads-up displays in an attempt to draw players closer into the gritty, violent world. Xbox Live support is also included for ten-player online competition.

Gameplay

In this game you are some sort of agent and you are sent to a country by your company to take out a target. This is around the beginning so you will pick things up very quickly as they're are no enemies attacking you at the start. As you progress in the beginning you will have to take out the target. If you are successful in killing him then congratulations but you are now infected with a biological virus. The game-play is quite easy and the campaign mode is decent. There are quite a few characters that will aid you in your quest and some may ask you for assistance first and pay you back in return. The enemies in the game are that difficult to kill as long as you're accurate with your accuracy and precision. A couple of bullets to the head with a decent gun should take a couple of them out in quick succession. You can also alternate between slow motion and the regular pace of the game. You can only use the slow motion for a small period of time so use it in tricky situations to overcome the problems that you're enemies may be causing. There are other various guns in the game that you will encounter and be able to use to your advantage against your foes. Most of the guns sounds amazing and the effects that they have are really responsive. Shoot a rocket launcher, smoke and fire will come out and the explosion afterwards will look pretty sweet. Another feature, when the enemy has a rocket launcher and they are trying to shoot at a vehicle or something similar that you are in, a beeping noise will occur. This gives you the opportunity to move away from the projectile and fire right back at them. Personally, the gameplay was really enjoyable however it does get quite boring after a while because you do realise that you're running around too much. Couple of hours a day would be necessary but if you wanted to complete the game in a single day it would be possible. I'm unsure if everyone that had this game liked it but it does have quite a few hours of play time and some missions are really exciting.

Graphics

Graphics in Dark Sector are actually quite decent and personally they are definitely better than mediocre as some critics suggest. They're not amazing but they are definitely close. Everything looks the way it should, dark places in the game are dark and eerie. Weather in the game looks great and the rain, lightening and dark clouds all have a somewhat essence to them and make the atmosphere that more realistic. The glaive in your right hand has blood and has a good looking texture to it. Some of the things that look really good are the cross-hairs and the explosions that occur in the game. That seem to strike out more and definitely stand out as in a dark game they can be so bright. I liked the way that fire and darkness of this game contrasted also. Although I don't think that they did an amazing job with the characters facial features as some are quite blurry and I think that was the only underdeveloped feature of the game that stood out to me. Other than they're good but some fields in the graphics area could have used more work.

Overall, this game was quite enjoyable to play. The multiplayer function of the game is quite simple and usually just Team Deathmatch games on various maps. Nothing amazing but it's a good bonus feature. Dark Sector can provide a couple of hours of game time but it does get boring after a while. I doubt that if you complete the campaign you'd want to complete it again but I guess that is personal preference.

Game Rating : 7/10 (Gameplay was enjoying for my personally, graphics look really good but some areas could be improved, controls are responsive, pretty basic to learn and game can be picked up for really cheap now)
