Synopsis

NHL 12 is an ice hockey video game developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports. The game was released between September 813, 2011, in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and North America. The game was featured in the 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Steven Stamkos was announced as the game's cover athlete on June 22, 2011, at the NHL Awards Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the first time since NHL 2004, the cover athlete (Stamkos) is the same for all of the regions that NHL 12 was released in. The game notably includes more interactive goalies (i.e. players can have real contact with the goalies and vice versa, and the goalies and skaters may fight each other), better physics engine, improved Be a Pro mode, and the ability to play the 2011 NHL Winter Classic.
Along with several other new EA Sports titles, NHL 12 was made available three days prior the official release dates to purchasers of the EA Sports Season Ticket, a new digital program allowing users with a PlayStation 3 and/or an Xbox 360 to download and test the full version of new EA Sports titles for a three-day trial period by paying an annual fee of $24.99 or 2,000 Microsoft points.[3][4] Users who pre-ordered the retail version of the game may have received a code for a goalie boost pack, which improves certain parts of the player's goalie in the Be a Pro mode.
Like NHL 11, Gary Thorne (play-by-play) and Bill Clement (color) provide commentary for NHL 12.

Gameplay

NHL 12 has switched from there old developer 2K sports to EA and it seems to have been a good switch so far. One note able feature is that you can play with NHL Legends Ray Bourque, Chris Chelios, Steve Yzerman, Patrick Roy, Jeremy Roenick, Gordie Howe, Mario Lemieux, Brje Salming and Wayne Gretzky. There is also a legends team which you can shape up against. The game play is now more realistic with players not getting there sticks snapped 24/7 and not falling over at the slightest touch. EA have also included a improvised presentation of the players faces, making the players look more realistic in game and adding over 100 more players faces.

Multiplayer

Unless you have a few friends who also own NHL 12, most of the multiplayer modes are useless. Dont get me wrong I am not saying theyre bad, because its extremely fun to create a custom team with your friends and compete against other teams. The majority of the online action will be in quick matches and shoot-outs, which in my books are more enjoyable. Playing online with friends can be stressful and very hard. Everyone wants to be the hero and nobody cares about playing positions, so it can result in a lot of loses. I would rather play one-on-one online. The only problem I have with playing online are the people you play against. Some people are rather sore losers and if theyre losing in the third period will quit, but that isnt the games fault. I just wish people would show more sportsmanship.

Graphics

The graphic's added in the game have given it that added edge its no longer a half hearted game its now full blooded. Plus by adding the improved faces it makes the game that little bit more realistic.

Overall Comments

Very good overall although unless you have friends that play the game the online modes are pretty useless except from the Head 2 Head mode. Which is basically the main game mode. The singleplayer is great and the career mode is pretty awesome.

Overall Rating: 8/10

Pretty good overall, I highly recommend this game!
