MW3 menu leaked

As you probably already know, those who attend COD XP will get to play the MW3 multiplayer. One of the latest leaks shows what looks to be the MW3 multiplayer menu:

As you can see from the screenshot of the MW3 menu/GUI above, the options are:

  • Find A Game
  • Closed Match (I'm guessing that Closed Match is the new name for Private Match)
  • Class Editor
  • Playercard
  • Elite Service
  • Barracks

MW3 Perks

On the 18th of August, the MW3 perks list was leaked by a "reliable source". The perk list made its way onto several Youtube videos. These videos were immediately taken down after Activision filed a DMCA notice. Would Activision have filed a "take-down" notice against the video if the information about the MW3 perk list was false? Not likely.

Here are the Perks that will star in Modern Warfare 3:

Perk Tier / Slot One
Extreme Conditioning: Sprint longer distances (like Marathon). Extreme Conditioning Pro will allow you to climb obstacles faster (like Marathon Pro).

Sleight of Hand: This will allow you to reload faster. Sleight of Hand Pro will allow you to swap weapons faster.

Scavenger: Just like in MW2, Scavenger will allow you to refill your ammo from fallen foes in MW3. Scavenger Pro will allow you to spawn with more ammunition than normal.

Blind Eye: This will make you undetectable to support (killstreaks etc). Blind Eye Pro will allow you to lock onto air craft much more quickly. It will also allow you to cause more damage against enemy air support.

Recon: If one of your explosive weapons causes damage to an enemy player, that enemy player's position will be painted on the minimap so that your team mates instantly know where he is. With Recon Pro, shooting an enemy with regular bullets will paint his position on the minimap so that your team mates know where he/she is.

Perk Tier / Slot Two
Hardline will work like it did in Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. i.e. you'll need one less kill / point for a killsteak / pointstreak in MW3. Hardline Pro will allow 2 assists to count as a kill towards your killstreak.

Assassin will act like a watered-down version of Cold Blooded/Ghost. It will make you immune to UAVs, Heartbeat sensors, Portable Radar and Thermal. It will NOT make you immune to air support and killstreaks. Assassin Pro will make you immune to the Counter UAV and the EMP.

Overkill will allow you to select a primary weapon as your secondary weapon. Basically, Overkill will allow you to have two primary weapons in MW3. Overkill Pro will allow you to put two attachments on your secondary weapon, much like Bling Pro in MW2.

Quickdraw in MW3 will work like Sleight of Hand Pro in MW2 and Black Ops. It will allow you to aim down your sights at a faster rate. Quickdraw Pro will allow you to recover faster after using your grenades or equipment.

Blast Shield was a piece of equipment in MW2. In MW3, Blast Shield will be a perk. It will allow you to take less damage from explosives. Blast Shield Pro will make you immune to flash grenades and stun grenades.

Perk Tier / Slot Three
Sitrep in MW3 will work the same as Sitrep in MW2 and Black Ops. It will allow you to see enemy explosives and equipment. This is like Bomb Squad in COD 4. Sitrep Pro will allow you to hear footsteps better.

Dead Silence will work like Ninja Pro. It will make your footsteps almost silent. Dead Silence Pro in MW3 will prevent you from taking fall damage, much like Commando Pro in MW2 and Lightweight Pro in Black Ops.

Stalker will allow you to move quicker while aiming down your sights. Stalker Pro will delay claymore explosions in MW3.

Marksman will give you an ID target from Ranger. I'm not really sure what that means yet. Marksman Pro will allow you hold your breath for much longer while scoping through a sniper rifle or a thermal scope.

Steady Aim will give you increased hip fire accuracy. In MW3, Steady Aim Pro will allow you to quickly aim down your sights while sprinting. This is similar to Lightweight Pro in MW2.

Please note that all of these perks are subject to change.

MW3 Killsteaks

Because very little information has been released about the MW3 multiplayer, we are unable to tell what all of the killstreaks in Modern Warfare 3 will be. Fortunately, the multiplayer teaser at the end of the MW3 Spec Ops trailer gave us a sneak preview. In the multiplayer teaser at the end of the Spec Ops trailer, we could see what killstreaks the player had by looking at the bottom right corner of the HUD.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Firstly, it seems as if they will no longer be called killstreaks. Instead, they will now be referred to as pointstreaks. This means that players might be able to earn these streaks by killing people AND by completing objectives etc. For instance, if I cap two flags in Domination without dying, I might be given a UAV. From the teaser; we can be certain of the following MW3 killstreaks / pointstreaks.

MW3 killstreaks

Bouncing Betty
Remember that device in the multiplayer teaser? The one that sent an explosive up into the air? Well, most people reckon that it was a Bouncing Betty. At first, many people thought that the Bouncing Betty would be featured as a piece of equipment (like a claymore or a tactical insertion). However, if you look at the screenshot above, you can see what looks like an icon for the Bouncing Betty. This would mean that the Bouncing Betty is in fact, a low-level killstreak in MW3.

Predator Missile
It looks as if the Predator Missile will be returning as a killstreak / pointstreak in MW3. If you look at the screenshot above, you'll see that the Predator Missile is a higher killstreak than the Bouncing Betty.

Juggernaut
This is probably the most exciting piece of killstreak information we've been given. After the Bouncing Betty kills FourZeroTwo, the player is given a 14 point pointstreak / killstreak called Juggernaut. You can hear the game announcer saying "Juggernaut ready for delivery." Wait.... the Juggernaut is ready for delivery? Could this mean that an AI-controlled Juggernaut (like the Juggernaut guys seen in the Spec Ops trailer) will be air lifted to the battlefield to fight on your behalf? Or will a Juggernaut suit be airlifted to your position?

As more information is released about MW3, this thread will be updated.

MW3 will have dedicated servers

Today at Gamescom, which is the largest trade fair for interactive games, Activision announced that Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated servers. This comes as great news to PC players, who felt jilted when it was announced that MW2 would use IWNet instead of dedicated servers. Activision, the publishing company behind the Call of Duty series, wanted to show that they are still serious about the PC platform.

The Dolphin Dive will not be returning in MW3.

Treyarch introduced the Dolphin Dive in Call of Duty Black Ops. The dolphin dive basically allowed players to dive into a prone position. Some gamers liked the new feature - however, those who liked to dropshot found that it to be annoying as they could no longer dropshot while sprinting.

FourZeroTwo announced on Twitter that the dolphin dive would not be returning in Modern Warfare 3:

COD Points / Currency will not be featured in MW3

It looks as if MW3 won't have the COD Currency system that was first introduced in Black Ops. Speaking on Twitter, FourZeroTwo said:

This means that weapons, attachments and equipment will all be unlocked by the player leveling up. Many Call of Duty players had complained that the currency system in Black Ops made the game boring, as unlocking certain attachments became too easy.

Modern Warfare 3 PC to use Steamworks

Valve today confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will indeed be using Steamworks and sold on Steam.

Taken in light of the franchise's history of being sold on Steam, this isn't exactly surprising news, but with Battlefield 3 giving the service a pass, it's probably worth noting. The game's availability on the service means that if you want you can pre-purchase the game and start downloading it now, in preparation of the game's Nov. 8 launch.

Activision also reiterated that the PC version of their game will support dedicated servers on day one.from launch. The latest installment in Activision's FPS behemoth is available for Steam pre-purchase now, ahead of its 8th November launch.
