People always say on social media "If *insert candidate's name here* wins, I'm moving to Canada". Well, sorry to break it to you, you're staying in the US. Nobody ever does any research anymore, they only look at the things presented right directly to them (via media for example). Nobody ever brings up that federal taxes in Canada are HIGHER in Canada than here in the US.

Canadian income tax rates

As a comparison here is Trump's proposed tax reform

So if you're only making minimum wage, 15% OF YOUR INCOME ($2262) goes to the government. On the other hand, if elected, Trump wouldn't want you to pay ANY income tax. Moving to Canada is such a financially stupid decision. Why would you move to a country where would have to pay MORE in taxes? It just doesn't make any sense. DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE.

I love how Americans think that getting into Canada is somehow easy?? Just because we share a huge rock that we call "North America" doesnt somehow mean you can just waltz into Canada.. Also I love how people say "if Trump becomes president im moving to Canada" yet you never hear them saying "If Trump becomes president im moving to Mexico"

It's because they are honestly stupid enough to think that either candidate can ruin this country or get it nuked. They don't understand that the people behind the president makes the decisions. Granted the president can make a few but he (or she) can't say "Let's nuke China for no reason". When someone says they will move to Canada if someone because president, I tell them you better start packing because you're too stupid to live here (not saying Canadians are stupid, just saying get the stupid people out of my country).

Me and my girl are actually considering it, and I'll tell you why.

First, yes, taxes are a bit higher, but that's because they're socialist, and that's how they fund things such as free healthcare, easy-to-obtain medical supplies, and medicine for people who need it. The Canadian dollar is also worth more than the US dollar, housing is cheaper after the conversions are made, and generally, if you make 18 grand a year over there, you're pretty set.

There's many government programs also that many Canadians enroll in, that generally help the entire country. More people give to the government, so they can give to others who need it. Homelessness in Canada is also so little compared to the US.

And her and I also already have passports and we can travel across that border any time we wish lol

We're moving to Indiana early 2017, but we're only staying as long as it takes to find and purchase a house in Canada, and we actually are moving there. So umm, how about them moose, eh?

I respect everyones opinion, but you also have to account that there's many points of view when looking at a decision like that, I do see yours, but on top of the higher taxes, you need to take into account what that does for the country as a whole. Higher taxes are a reasonable argument, but they dwarfed as compared to what you get in return as a Canadian citizen, which for her and I, it would actually be easy to become as we have family that lives there also, like, not just one of us, we both have blood relatives living in Canada, so along with family ties, we also have an inside look on how they run things, and honestly, living in Canada is easier than most think, and it's definitely better than I'm living now, here in Florida, where it sucks.

So yes, I see your argument, and respect your decision, but please do some research on why the taxes are higher first. (On a more personal note, if me and my mother had been living in Canada when she had her stroke, we wouldn't have been evicted while waiting for her insurance to reimburse her for medical costs, as there wouldn't have really been any to begin with.)

Canada is doing a bit better than Mexico, and in Canada they speak English as well, so they wouldn't have to learn a new language.
