Look in local classifieds. I don't think you will get anything mechanically sound for that range though.

Finding anything mechanically sound for under $5000 USD/AUD is going to be difficult unless you purchase from a dealership.

Stealerships are worse. Expect to pay more from a dealer than from a private party.

I bought my truck at 5k from a dealer, it needed a torque converter and essentially a front end rebuild (ti-rods, ball joints, pitman / idler arm, etc).

Bought my truck for 1.5k from a private party and I have put more than 10k into it to get it running and it still has issues. The thing is practically brand new now and it's 20 years old.

I just haven't had the best of luck with private parties. This truck has cost me a ton, my 1999 Legacy cost me a ton.

Any used vehicle will have it's problem, expect to be putting in at least half the purchase price into it to get it running right.

You could probably find some old commordore for around that price. An pulsar n14, maybe a fiesta. You should try to save around $1000 more. A lot better cars for $3000 than for $2000
