Now before I start I've looked this up and I was brought to some page about criminal law and dwelling and to be honest I couldn't understand it, (I'm not exactly the best reader of English) so this page is basically in hieroglyphics to me [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

But anyway, over the course of living in Ireland there's been a lot of speculation regarding the use of self defence in your home as in, in the UK (as far as I know anyway correct me if I'm wrong) you're allowed to legally kill someone one who you feel is a threat on your property, but in Ireland you cannot legally kill someone that is either outside your property or IN, and you have to use "reasonable force" in doing so, hang on a second here, if someone dressed in fully black is in my home at 2am and he has a crowbar in his hand, I should be able to kill him. It's 2am and there's someone armed with a potentially lethal weapon, I'd highly doubt he's here for a cup of tea and to drop in to say hello now is he? stupid bloody law.

If you're in a position where you're able to kill the intruder then i'm sure that you'll easily be able to use reasonable force to merely disable them.

There's no need to go to extremes and kill people. I think playing too many video games has desensitized you.

No you shouldn't be able to kill him.
you must use reasonable force as in pin them down til police arrive or if in fear hit them with a tool but it cannot be preplanned
the law is correct and a reasonable law

The police in Ireland are not quick, the station is about 10 minutes from me and they take about 30-35 minutes to get here.. and, it's 2am, how would I be able to pin someone down if im unarmed and vulnerable? and not to mention he has a crowbar..

it's not a "stupid" law, it's a very good law, just because he has come to steal your TV, doesn't give you the right to take his life.

as said above, you can however use "reasonable force" to defend yourself until help arrives, what is "reasonable force"?, it depends on the situation really.

Straight from the government website.(UK, I'd imagine Irish law is very similar)

So you're telling me if someone planned to steal from and could easily knock out... You would to use reasonable force, well good luck mate I hope you know how to fight... Honestly the only way I see it is threatening the person who trying to steal by right to carry arms; no need to kill them but threaten them. Killing is against my all laws and should be, so just threaten them if you can, if not I guess you better run from your own home

Run from your own home because someone is going to break in and steal from it? I'm sorry, but that's what a coward does. It's your home, your possessions, stand your ground and get help if you need it (family, neighbors, police) not run from it. Also killing isn't and shouldn't be against all laws. If someone is literally on the verge of killing you, family or let's just say, by some chance, someone you could save, if they're on the verge of killing someone (gun being held to them, trying to stab or whatever it may be) you should have the right to do whatever it takes to protect yourself or whoever is the victim of it, so no, "killing someone shouldn't be against all laws" if it's a last resort that is needed in order to protect if that person(s) is literally trying to kill you or someone else, you should have that right to do what is needed.

OT: I know this seems like a pretty generic answer, but I would consider getting an attack/guard dog. Almost any dog will do, just guard/attack dogs are trained to be comfortable around a family only and anyone else is a suspected intruder if it's near the dog's "property" which would be your family (mostly the master of the dog) and your house. Most intruders won't dare continue with a break in if there is a dog at that house and the dog barking in the aggressive manner also alerts people around you should that intruder try anything and you have to take your own action with it. Plus a dog is quick with defending and can do some serious damage until the intruder gives up on breaking in/attacking, they run away or the police arrive. German Shepherds/East European Shepherds, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Mastiff, Labrador Retriever, Doberman Pinscher, Australian Shepherd, **Caucasian Shepherd/Caucasian Mountain Dogs would be amazing attack/guard dogs should it be needed.

** These dogs are kinda hard to come by and are pretty expensive if trying to get them as puppies, they are very popular in Russia and a friend of mine has one in America and these dogs are one of the most protective things I have ever seen. They get pretty big and get very aggressive early, like within a few weeks time, they will try to fight the other puppies if they're around any, so you could start training them that early and by the time they're 8 weeks old, can have a dog that will already do some serious damage. They're very strong and are so protective of their master, that I literally can't get within 10 feet of my friend without that dog ready to attack and I've known him for years. However, from my understanding, they're loyal to one person only, which is their master, so there's that if you're trying to get a guard/attack dog that will listen to the whole family. I have my own attack/guard dog which is an East European Shepherd, and as the ones I listed above, any of those would be a good thought for a guard dog if you decide to get one (if you don't already have a dog.)

I So Agree With You, If Somebody Was Going To Kill My I Would Kill Them, I Mean I Aint Going To Die Without A Good Reason.
