They literally look at what you have installed on your computer..
Some game devs look to see if you have Cheat Engine installed and they ban you if you have it, EVEN IF YOU NEVER USED IT.

Some companies are being ridiculous nowadays.

ShadowBoltDashie wrote Welcome to the club, when I had first bought MW2, literally the first game I got into was a modded game, now it's my fault for staying but at the time it was Gun Game on Afghan so I didn't think much harm would be done, the hoster changed it to a challenge lobby mid game and well, I got VAC Banned from MW2 Multiplayer. I went to Valve Support about it and they said it was final, and apparently, a lot of people have gotten VAC Banned from MW2 from jumping into games and being put into some modded lobbies without it getting reversed at all. Kinda sucks as I was looking forward to playing MW2 like I did on Xbox, but again, I should have left when I had gotten into that lobby. Now as for it getting reversed, I doubt it, they are very strict with their VAC Bans and sometimes they might just plain out ignore the request.

Combees wrote If you really did get banned for editing your crosshairs then that is some major ********, unless your crosshairs gave you an unfair advantage in the game.

Some people have even gotten VAC Banned for modding the FOV (like "pro-mod" view on console and such.) It doesn't even give an advantage, just lets you see your gun all the way as well as your arms.

I have edited my FOV, but that is also allowed, I was banned because of "Overwatch" meaning an "Overwatch Inspector" was sent a game of mine to watch because I was reported for something, but I've watched back my games and i have done nothing to get myself banned.

You can use Cheat Engine all you want, if you're not using it online. If you want to play Sonic with speed hacks, not a problem, want to have super jump on Goat Simulator, not a problem, want to pass through walls on Battleblock Theater, not a problem, just as long as it's not being used in an online game. As for Valve seeing what's on your PC, I doubt it, if anything, they probably only check your library that's connected to Steam to see if you're changing any of the .dll files for the games.

DOA wrote I'm not accusing you of anything but VAC only kicks in when it detects something in your game files has been altered or modified in anyway and usually 99.99% theirs a reason that you were banned....Regarding your question I don't believe you can ever be un-banned from a game. You can try but I wouldn't count on it. The only thing to do is create another account and buy the game again.

No it isnt only like that. In this case it was the overwatcher.

I have contacted support, still waiting a reply(been about 24 hours).

It says I was Convicted by Overwatch, but it says I have a VAC ban on my profile.

But I was told, Overwatch convictions wont get VAC bans, just cooldowns, unless it's for cheats, but I was banned for being ''Disruptive'' apparently.

Which according to steam forums, is when you TK, go AFK all the time, and just generally Griefing.

The only thing I have edited is my crosshair.

That very may well be it, although I'm not sure because I don't play much CS-GO but I know if you edit you FOV in CoD Ghost you will get banned for that so it may be simaler to CS-GO.

I hope your joking about ghost lol ghost has the option to change fov in settings lol I have never played cod on anything but 85+FPS. Dont know anyone that has.

Nope. Resident evil revelations has vac and it is single player. Also VAC scans your dns cache and looks for hack websites and if it finds something it bans you.

When COD ghosts first came out there was no FOV option to change it. People had to use a FOV changer to change it and were banned for it.

First of Steam support takes us up to and usually a week to reply, also consider yourself lucky my account got hijacked and after patiently waiting a week for steam support to reply they managed to get my account back for me however I have been trade banned for 10 YEARS! even though they know damn well that it was the hijacker that caused that trade ban. Steam is amazing but it can also be incredibly shit sometimes.

Still stick with your support ticket and provide as much evidence as possible as it may have just been some trolls who you were better than that reported you for "hacking" and you never know you may get lucky
