get something thats fast.. you won't be able to get a good lancer with 8k, if your gonna get a lancer you need to get the Evolution, and you won't be able to get that with 8k.

You want something nice? Get a Nissan Silvia s15, or a Skyline

great, fast , awesome looking cars !

just my input though.

Depending on what your goals are it could vary If you want something to just get from point A to B and just daily drive casually then sure but if your looking for performance then no you'd want to step up to the Evo which depending on which model will run you from 20 to 50k and your obviously not going to spend that much on a first car..... I consider the Lancer the baby Evo and I mostly see girls driving them just my 2 cents good luck!

If you're looking for the lancer model, then you can drop down to an older year, and get an Evo. Sure, it's not the X model, which in my opinion blew all the models out of the water. But it gets you into knowing the lancers roots and recognizing what makes mitsubishi unique with their lancer models. And then slowly upgrading to the X model, when you get a decent income, because those don't come cheap.

But, if you want to branch off to different brands of cars, for 8k, you can get a decent volkswagon, srt-4, bugeye wrx's,etc. I just don't know your preference in vehicles, and what body styles you like. Me personally I enjoy Subarus the most. But they retain their value well, so getting one in the 8k range, will be high in miles, and may have some cosmetic damages. The NSRT-4's are nice and are light/fast just rolling off the lot. But if you get the right build, those things will pull away on a lot of vehicles. And for Volkswagons, they're not fast, but their mostly about style. And they're cheaper as well.

I'm all for you being interested in tuner cars, but if you do decide to get one of the cars above, or any car for that matter. Please be aware when driving, and don't be revving your engine at a damn stop light looking to race a mini van..

insurance on a Lancer will be super expensive. best off getting something cheap to insure to start with for the first couple of years.

Lol the guys saying getting a evo or something fast for a first car. I don't know what your parents drive and what you have been learning on but i assume it is a basic car nothing to fast. An evo is definitely not a good first car and will a huge jump from what you learned on.. A lancer would be a fine first car in my mind, being a ES model or a gts. its fast enough for a first car. You are a beginner driver about to get a first car. You won't be able to handle anything like an evo or an sti. Just my input... I would just start off with a cheap car off craigslist and work your way up as you get better at driving.

Get what you want. Be prepared to be paying close to $500 a month on insurance for something like an evo though. If you decide you want something along that line.
