However, a later translation of a Nintendo earnings Q&A session with president Shunatro Furukawa revealed that the tentatively named Nintendo Switch 2 is not a part of the company’s current financial forecast, meaning that it likely won’t be released until next April at the very earliest. Furukawa has also advised fans not to expect any major reveals during the upcoming Nintendo Direct event in June.

Meanwhile, a recent thread on the Famiboards forum (via NintendoLife) suggests that the working codename for the Nintendo Switch successor has been uncovered. The users in this thread claim to have found this name while digging through code for Switch 2 software development kits, revealing that Nintendo could be tentatively calling its new hardware “Muji.” Some knowledgeable users have pointed out that this is the same name as a Japanese retailer known for its minimalist designs and lack of any logos or branding for its products - hence the name “Muji,” which is Japanese for “plain.”

This codename hasn’t been officially confirmed in any capacity, but it does invite some questions and theories about why Nintendo would call its next console “Muji.” The translation of this name could be a sign that the Switch 2 won’t be a radical departure from its predecessor in terms of design or functionality, a notion that several rumors about the console have supported. Shunatro Furukawa recently hinted that the Switch 2 will retain the original Switch’s console/handheld hybrid form factor, something that has helped the Switch become a smash success for many years.
