Capcom Hits Record High Profits for Seventh Year in a Row

Japanese games publisher Capcom has been absolutely killing it for many years now, and with its latest annual financial results, it's done it yet again. Thanks to a series of top-selling games in its most popular franchises, the company has reached record high profits for the seventh consecutive year, and the 11th consecutive year of operating income growth.

For the financial year ending March 2024, all figures are up considerably compared to the previous year. Net sales were approximately $977 million, up 21 per cent; operating income was $366 million, up 12.3 per cent; ordinary income was $381 million, up 15.7 per cent; and net income attributable to owners of the parent was $278 million, up 18.1 per cent. In a nutshell, doing pretty well, then.

The main driver of these record high figures is software sales. Resident Evil 4 was the biggest contributor, selling 3.39 million units during this financial period. It's far from the only success, though, as 15 games sold 1 million copies or more in the same timeframe. Street Fighter 6 sold 3.3 million, Dragon's Dogma 2 sold 2.6 million, and older titles like Monster Hunter World and Resident Evil 7 are very much still in the mix. Even Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the updated version of the original game, sold nearly 1.7 million copies thanks to hype for the sequel.

Capcom's forecast for its next annual results is understandably optimistic, then. It's anticipating net sales of about $1 billion and operating income of about $410 million, which would be another step up.

On the horizon, the publisher has announced games such as Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and Monster Hunter Wilds, and it's expected that new games in the Resident Evil franchise — like Resident Evil 9 — are also in the works.
