Well known hacker Mathieulh has reportedly confirmed that Sony has implemented a 'rootkit' in the latest PS3 firmware. He noted "Essentially Sony can now remotely execute code on the PS3 as soon as you connect. This can do whatever Sony wants it to do such as verifying system files or searching for homebrew. One of the first hackers to release a custom firmware for the PS3 just tweeted this - "To everyone asking me about 3.56 and CFW : PLEASE STOP. We can decrypt/encrypt the 3.56 files, but we cannot sign them, so it's not so easy." So there you have it, looks like Sony is getting slightly smarter with their protection.

Sony has more cause to be even happier today! News has just hit that they have been graned their request for a Temporary Restraining Order in their case against Geohot and the other hackers. The judge has also ruled that there is enough evidence to keep the case in San Francisco. What more could Sony wish for?
