PS5 Pro – Devs Asked to Ensure Compatibility with Focus on Ray Tracing

3
Despite not being officially announced, the PS5 Pro has seen several details leak over the past month or so, starting with a video by Moore’s Law is Dead, which Insider Gaming corroborated. The Verge’s Tom Warren is adding to the pile after obtaining a “full list of specs” for the console. Many of these are already known, like the 576 GB/s system memory bandwidth, a CPU with a “High Frequency Mode” to run at 3.8 GHz and more.

However, sources “familiar with Sony’s plans” revealed to Warren that developers are being asked to ensure their games are compatible with the Pro, focusing on improved ray tracing. Sony is reportedly encouraging the use of the latter more and even has a “Trinity Enhanced” label for games with “significant enhancements,” as reported by Insider Gaming recently.

Interestingly, it also seems that developers will have access to 1.2 GB more system memory on the PS5 Pro, which would help for the rumored PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution.

The PS5 Pro reportedly launches in Holiday 2024, though it may be delayed due to a lack of first-party titles. Stand by for more details and an official announcement in the meantime.
