Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero Reportedly Won't Include Split-Screen

3.8
Dragon Ball Sparking: Zero's producer, Jun Furutani, has reportedly revealed that it won't include a split-screen mode like older Budokai Tenkaichi games, leaving it up to online play for friends to fight one another.

As beloved as Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is for its single-player content, huge roster, and unique gameplay mechanics that let you accurately recreate battles from the show, one of the biggest things that everyone loved about it was its split-screen modes. There was simply nothing like sitting on a sofa and fighting your friends as one of you got to pick Legendary Super Saiyan Broly and the other had to go with Videl.

Of course, this was a different time for gaming and things have changed a hell of a lot in the decade and a half since Budokai Tenkaichi 3, but fans have still hoped that such an important part of the series would be returning for Sparking: Zero. The evidence has sadly pointed to that not being the case for some time, however, as there's only been mention of single-player modes and online play so far.

Well, if you were holding out hope that Bandai was saving an announcement for the future, I've got some bad news for you. Recently, as shared by Twitter user LaunSSJ, Twitter users SofianLeGEEK, Yekais, had the chance to speak to Sparking: Zero's producer, Jun Furutani, and series producer, Ryo Mito, and get a ton of new information about the game.

Although most of that has been fairly good news, like the confirmation of Sparking: Zero's release window and GT characters, there is a bit of bad news in there. As translated by ShonenGamesZ, Furutani and Mito claim that local split-screen modes won't be available due to "issues related to Sony and Microsoft" that make split-screen hard to include.

It's claimed that Furutani and Mito are trying to find a solution to the problem and get split-screen modes in Sparking: Zero, but it sounds like it's not going to be an easy task and is unlikely to be in the game at launch, if at all. We won't know until the game eventually launches or it's confirmed by Bandai Namco, but it might be best to stop hoping for it.
