Dragon Ball Sparking: Zero Will Feature Playable Giant Characters

4.1
The latest trailer for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has confirmed that giant characters like Great Ape Vegeta will be a playable part of the roster, just like in Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2024 is happening in Los Angeles right now, and it's been a big treat for Dragon Ball fans. Not only did we get the announcement of the last piece of DLC for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, but we also got a brand-new trailer for Sparking: Zero that showed off nearly all of Goku and Vegeta's transformations.

That wasn't all that was revealed in the trailer, though. Beyond giving us our best look yet at how Sparking: Zero is going to play, the new footage also confirmed a big (literally) returning feature from Budokai Tenkaichi 3 - giant characters. One of the big new features of the third game in the series was the ability to play as larger characters like Hirudegarn, Janemba, and more.

Some fans (including myself) doubted that the feature would return for Sparking: Zero considering how long it's been since the last game in the series released and how hard it is to make these characters fair to play as, but the new trailer showed Great Ape Vegeta as one of Vegeta's transformations, confirming that the feature is making a return.

No other giant characters have been confirmed for Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero just yet, but it seems likely that most of the ones from Budokai Tenkaichi 3 will be making a return here. That means that we can probably expect Janemba, Hirudegarn, and the Pilaf Gang in their big robot as playable characters on the roster. Dragon Ball Super didn't introduce too many giant characters, so don't expect too many new ones popping up, but it does seem like most of them have a chance of returning.

The trailer only showed Great Ape Vegeta attacking Goku, so we don't yet know if Budokai Tenkaichi 3's stagger mechanic, which prevented Giant characters from reacting to hits unless a character is particularly strong, will return, but considering the Tenkaichi series' commitment to detail, it seems likely that will be the case once again.
