Suicide Squad Has The Same "DNA" As Batman: Arkham, Says Dev

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has the same "DNA" as the Batman: Arkham games, says Rocksteady. This comes as many remain sceptical over the studio should working on a live service, since it previously found its success with single-player games.

However, in a new interview with Play Magazine (via GamesRadar+), a project lead draws a direct comparison between the Arkham games and Suicide Squad. At least in terms of its story, Rocksteady feels that Suicide Squad won't be too much of a departure from its usual work, even if the games seem very different on the surface.

"It's still full of the DNA that infuses the Batman: Arkham series," says product director Darius Sadeghian. "Those foundations of story and character are absolutely central to our process [...] Story-wise, this is easily our biggest game". Since the team plans to release free content for at least a year post-launch, that does seem very likely.

Of course, the playerbase will soon be the judge of whether or not Suicide Squad is a worthy follow-up to the Arkham games. While it is set in the same universe, that won't necessarily be enough for it to endear itself to fans, particularly since their main concern seems to surround the live service elements of Suicide Squad, like in-game currencies, seasonal content, and a battle pass.

Still, there have been some changes made to address this negative player feedback. It was recently revealed that the need for a constant internet connection - even when playing in single-player - will be removed after launch. Still, it will be released with this requirement, which might get in the way of some playthroughs.

Right now, Suicide Squad is going into its launch window right off the back of negative preview coverage, so it remains to be seen if the reception is any more positive when the general public gets their hands on the game. Anyone who played in the closed alpha is able to share their thoughts now, at least, as the non-disclosure agreement has been partially lifted.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set to launch on January 20. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Well, Harley Quinn (and the Joker) are Batman's best of enemies
