Tomb Raider Remastered Trilogy Finally Confirms Modern Controls

3.8
The Tomb Raider Remastered trilogy has finally been confirmed to have options for modern control layouts, alongside a host of other gameplay tweaks.

Although we might not be any closer to getting a brand-new Tomb Raider game (despite a new title being announced some time ago), we are at least getting some Lara Croft content in 2024 in the form of remastered versions of the original trilogy. As revealed in the announcement trailer, the remastered trilogy features improved graphics that change Lara's model and the environment around her, but we finally know that's not all it's offering.

As great as the original Tomb Raider trilogy is, even the biggest fans of the series would admit that the controls haven't aged all that well and can be a bit difficult to get used to, especially if you're not a Lara Croft veteran. Fans have been wondering if the remastered trilogy would do anything to combat that and make things a bit easier, something that wasn't confirmed when it was originally announced.

Thankfully, just over a month before launch, Tomb Raider Remastered's PR, Sandbox Strategies, has offered a few more details about the gameplay tweaks that are coming to the collection. The biggest of these is the option to be able to change between "classic or modern joystick controls", which should feasibly make moving Lara around a whole lot easier than before.

That isn't the only thing that's coming to the Remastered trilogy, however, as the tweet also confirms that camera lock-on will be added to all three games, which should make getting through them a little easier. It also reconfirms that the graphics can be toggled between classic and remastered at any time and that achievements are also introduced with the collection.

It's a little strange that it's taken this long for a modern control scheme to be confirmed for the Remastered trilogy, as it wasn't mentioned in the announcement trailer or on the game's Steam page. Still, even if it's taken this long and we still don't know exactly what it entails, but at least such a heavily-requested feature from fans of the series has been confirmed to be making it in.
