PlayStation Exclusive Game Delisted With No Warning

3.8
PS4 exclusive racing game Gran Turismo Sport has been delisted from the PlayStation Store with no prior announcement about its removal date. Gran Turismo Sport was first released in 2017 and earned mixed reviews from critics, especially when compared to the widespread acclaim enjoyed by its predecessors. Post-launch updates helped improve public perception of Gran Turismo Sport somewhat, though now anyone interested in playing it will have to track down a physical copy.

It was previously confirmed that Gran Turismo Sport's online servers would be shut down on January 31, 2024. Considering how much Gran Turismo Sport was built around its online component, this will no doubt be a devastating blow to the game's functionality. It was also confirmed at the time that Gran Turismo Sport DLC add-ons would cease to be available starting December 1, 2023. However, it was not confirmed that the game would be delisted, but that's exactly what's happened.

To the surprise of many, Gran Turismo Sport has been delisted weeks ahead of its online servers being shut down. While many fans knew to expect Gran Turismo Sport's online servers being shut down, they were taken off-guard by the sudden delisting. Gran Turismo Sport still has offline modes that will be available to play even after the online servers shut down, so anyone interested can still buy a physical copy to experience at least some of the game's modes.

Gran Turismo Sport Delisted and Shutdown Dates You Need to Know

Gran Turismo Sport DLC Delisted Date: December 1, 2023
Gran Turismo Sport Delisted: January 1, 2024
Gran Turismo Sport Online Server Shutdown: January 31, 2024

While unconfirmed, it's likely that Gran Turismo Sport's sudden delisting and server shutdowns are due to expiring licenses and Sony moving attention to the newest game in the series, Gran Turismo 7. Gran Turismo 7 was released in 2022 and earned mostly positive reviews, with new updates for the game still released on a regular basis. It's safe to assume that the vast majority of the Gran Turismo fan base has already moved on to Gran Turismo 7, though some fans may still be upset about Gran Turismo Sport being delisted and shut down.

The good news is physical copies of Gran Turismo Sport are relatively cheap, for now, at least. With Gran Turismo Sport being delisted from the PlayStation Store, it's possible that the price of secondhand copies will go up, though it's unlikely to become too expensive. For most racing game fans, though, it makes much more sense to turn their attention to the newer Gran Turismo 7 if they haven't done so already, with that game readily available to play on both PS4 and PS5.
