According to a recent rumor, the Switch 2 console could potentially feature upgraded versions of the Bayonetta trilogy of games. The original Bayonetta was developed by PlatinumGames and published by Sega for PS3 and Xbox 360. Nintendo took an interest in the series and provided financing for the sequels, taking over publishing duties for both Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U and Bayonetta 3 on the Nintendo Switch.

The Bayonetta franchise has been Nintendo exclusive for years, and there's no reason to assume that will change at any point in the near future. Right now, the future of the series is somewhat in question, as series creator Hideki Kamiya is no longer at PlatinumGames. Kamiya had ambitious plans for future Bayonetta games, but it's unclear if those plans will be followed up on now that he's no longer at the company.

It remains to be seen if the Switch 2 console will have a new Bayonetta game to call its own, but there's a chance that the first three games could be getting enhanced ports for Nintendo's new, still-unannounced console. According to NWeedle (as spotted by My Nintendo News), someone who has accurately leaked Nintendo news in the past, a Bayonetta Trilogy containing all three main series Bayonetta games is supposedly in the works for Switch 2 with upgraded graphics and HDR support. They added that they think Nintendo will announce its new console by the end of the fiscal year, suggesting a Switch 2 reveal could happen by the end of March, though fans should take all of this information with a grain of salt.

It would make sense for Nintendo to bring the Bayonetta games to its Switch 2 console. After all, the Bayonetta series has earned widespread critical acclaim, and many hardcore fans would jump at the opportunity to play the games with enhancements made possible by beefier Nintendo hardware. Then again, if the Switch 2 is backward compatible as rumored, it may make a potential Bayonetta Trilogy redundant, as all three games are currently playable on the Nintendo Switch.

If the rumored Bayonetta Trilogy comes to Nintendo's next console, whether it's called the Switch 2 or something else entirely, it would mean that one Bayonetta game would still be missing from the lineup. Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon is a spin-off game that released in 2023 as a Switch exclusive. It didn't earn quite the same level as praise as the main series games but still received mostly positive reviews, and it would be a shame for it to be the only missing game on Nintendo's new console. Of course, there's always the chance that there is no legitimacy to these rumors anyway, and none of the Bayonetta games are coming to the Switch 2, so fans should keep that in mind before getting too excited.
