World of Warcraft Reveals January 2024 Prime Gaming Reward

3.8
With 2024 right around the corner, World of Warcraft revealed the first Prime Gaming reward of the new year that players can claim. Until January 30, World of Warcraft players who connect their Battle.net and Prime Gaming accounts can add the Swift Windsteed mount to their collections in Dragonflight.

A few days before the Prime Gaming reward was made available, World of Warcraft showcased its ambitious 2024 roadmap for both the retail and Classic game versions. In January, both Dragonflight and Wrath of the Lich King Classic will have updates that will include new content for players to enjoy. In Dragonflight, the Seeds of Renewal content update will include an epilogue to the expansion and the fallen kingdom of Gilneas will finally be reclaimed after over a decade since the Cataclysm shattered it. In Wrath of the Lich King Classic, players will delve into the Ruby Sanctum and face off with the twilight dragon Halion in a precursory fight to the Cataclysm Classic expansion arriving later in the year.

However, Dragonflight mount collectors will now be able to claim the Swift Windsteed. World of Warcraft players who are also subscribed to Amazon Prime and Prime Gaming will be able to take flight on the Swift Windsteed. The mount was first made available during the Mists of Pandaria expansion for $25 on the in-game Cash Shop. However, with the advent of Twitch Drops, the Prime Gaming reward collaboration, and the controversial Trading Post during Dragonflight, some mounts and pets from the Cash Shop were taken off of the store to be made available elsewhere. Before its addition to the Prime Gaming collection, WoW players could claim the Swift Windsteed as a Twitch Drop in December 2022 to celebrate Dragonflight's launch.

In December 2023, the Tabard of Fury was the Prime Gaming reward that World of Warcraft players could claim. Before that, the tabard was part of the WoW TCG as a loot card. However, the Prime Gaming collaboration will only last a few more months, as the program was announced for a one-year term that started in April 2023. Only time will tell what rewards Blizzard will give away via Prime Gaming as the program reaches its conclusion, or if it will return in the future.

Though it remains to be seen how the Swift Windsteed will fare as a dynamic flying mount in the War Within expansion, World of Warcraft players now have another mount to ride into battle. All in all, 2024 looks to be off to a promising start in Azeroth.
