PS5 Pro Reportedly Aiming For September 2024 Release

4.4
A reliable insider has claimed that the long-rumoured PS5 Pro will be aiming to launch in September 2024, as well as revealing several details about what the mid-generation upgrade will be able to do.

Although we might have just only gotten the PS5 Slim a few months ago, one of the worst-kept secrets in the gaming industry right now is that PlayStation is also working on a mid-generation upgrade for the base PlayStation, likely called the "PS5 Pro". We've been hearing rumours about it for some time now, including that it's called "Project Trinity", but an insider has pointed out a potential release window.

As pointed out by ResetErra user modiz, Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb recently talked about the PS5 Pro (previously nicknamed "Project Trinity" and now apparently called "Viola") on the latest episode of Game Mess Decides and backed up claims that it's going to be aiming for a release in September 2024, a few months before the last reported date of November 2024.

Grubb also supported a recent specification list that reveals just how much more powerful the Pro is going to be compared to the base model, while also claiming that the leak is "based on a range of possibilities" and not quite locked in yet. A lot of it is tech jargon that will go over a lot of our heads (including my own), but there are some interesting tidbits to be gleaned from the claims posted on ResetEra.

According to that leak, Project Trinity is "the culmination of three technologies", including fast storage, accelerated ray tracing and upscaling, which is in line with what was originally reported by Tom Henderson earlier this year. The spec list also points to ray tracing being one of the big focuses of the PS5 Pro, with one of the goals being for it to have "temporarily stable upscaled 4K output" while having a framerate of more than 30 FPS.

Again, a lot of the nitty-gritty details are going to be too much information for causal players (and can be checked out in full on the ResetEra post), but the main message is that the PS5 Pro is going to be much more powerful than the base console and should be with us by this time next year, if not a little earlier.

November or December would've been hard to get the sales up,
