Starfield PC Players Are Struggling To Maintain 60fps

4.6
Starfield players on PC say they're struggling to maintain 60fps, even though they're not restricted by the same 30fps cap as those on console. While they can reach and even surpass 60fps, many fans are disappointed with how difficult this is to sustain, particularly during combat.

Many are eager to add that they're enjoying the game, but also feel that Bethesda needs to work on performance improvements for PC. They fear that this version of Starfield isn't well optimised, and aren't happy with the graphical limitations they're having to accept to ensure that the framerate doesn't dip below 60.

"The community needs to be louder about the performance issues," says Reddit user MeneT3k3l. "It might be a good game, but poor performance is what can stop a lot of people from enjoying the game fully.

"Right now I'm not seeing enough community feedback about this issue. It's running well below what should be acceptable for how the game looks."

MeneT3k3l then links to some content creators who have shared their own struggles hitting high framerates at 1080p, despite using a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti.

While the Starfield subreddit has been largely impressed with the game since its early access period kicked off yesterday, many in the replies still agree that there's room for improvement on PC. One user even says they're getting dips into the low 40s, an issue they haven't experienced with other games on their set-up.

"The truth is, the game doesn't even look good enough to excuse this level of performance," says Eterniter. "I am able to get more fps playing [Cyberpunk 2077] maxed out with ray tracing than I do base Starfield."

"I have a 4070/i910900k and the game can barely hold 60fps at 1440p/ medium," agrees MrSloppyPants. "That’s ludicrous."

Since it's Bethesda's primary focus right now, we can definitely expect hotfixes and patches for Starfield on both console and PC. Right now though, it looks like the devs made the right decision to cap it at 30fps on console. If these graphics cards are struggling, it's difficult to imagine the Xbox Series X - and especially the Series S - faring much better. It was a very controversial move when it was announced, but it may have guaranteed a better launch now that we've had time to come around to the idea.

For the most part though, Starfield is proving to be a hit with players. It already has a huge modding community too, with some modders putting out their own fanmade optimisation fixes ahead of official patches. You can download the latest Starfield Cheats and cheats from WeMod.

it is a huge game. I have heard from alot of people that it runs super smooth on next gen consoles. Maybe this is just a PC thing.. Im not sure hopefully it can be fixed. Still debating if I want on PC or Xbox.. Kinda leaning towards the Xbox now

The recommended system requirements don't seem very demanding, so this is definitely poor optimization.
