Tekken 8 Director Lashes Out At threats Over Character Additions

Tekken 8 still appears to be quite a ways away, with the game only having just wrapped up its first Closed Network Test earlier this month. That means that we still don't know a lot of the game's base roster, and fans have been unsurprisingly bugging Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada with character requests. Unfortunately, it seems like a some of these requests are a bit more aggressive than Harada would like, as he recently put a fan on blast for a "silly threat" with a detailed explanation on why fans shouldn't do it.

Obviously, if you're sending game developers threats over character additions, then you need to reevaluate your life choices, but Harada claims in his lengthy Twitter post that "everyone at FGC suffers" when threats are made, not just him. He first points out that whenever people make threats online, even if they're meant to be jokes, his security at events has to be tightened in case the threats are genuine, which results in increased costs. Harada also states that event management could also ask him to cancel his attendance if they're particularly bad.

Secondly, Harada explains that those that send threats in an attempt to get their favorite characters added are potentially ensuring that they never will. Clearly, no one likes to be threatened, but Harada says that company founders and board members could potentially ask him to cancel a character's inclusion if threats are received, even if that particular character was always planned to be added at some point.

Finally, Harada explains that the likelihood of both these things happening increases a whole lot if someone threatens developers while referring to themselves as part of the Tekken community, as it becomes more difficult to gauge whether it's public opinion or just the opinion of a few morons. On top of all that, Harada says that the "motivation of the development staff will decrease rapidly" whenever they get threats, and that they're far less likely to act on requests as a result.

Everything Harada says here is completely understandable, and anyone that thinks it's okay to send someone a threat needs to give their head a wobble. Characters will be added to Tekken 8 whenever they're ready, and if there are no plans in place for them, suck it up and move on like a normal human being.
