Rumor: Assassin's Creed Mirage May Have Hit a Production Bump

Fans of Ubisoft’s acclaimed stealth franchise looking forward to getting their hands on the series’ small-scale spin-off, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, may have to wait a bit longer as recent rumors suggest that the mysterious title is facing production changes. The news of the eagerly awaited game’s potential delay comes on the heels of Assassins Creed Mirage leaks suggesting the game may be looking to shake up the Assassin's Creed formula by incorporating some sort of investigation mode.

Announced during Ubisoft Forward in September 2022, Assassin’s Creed Mirage looks to be going back to the franchise’s roots by featuring a story that will take around 15 to 20, rather than hundreds, of hours to complete. For many fans of the franchise who appreciated the gameplay and lore, but lacked the free time needed to complete the lengthy campaigns of recent entries, this return to form came as welcome news. The game will follow the exploits of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Basim as he makes his way through 9th-century Baghdad. Relatively little is known about the game so far, leaving gamers to speculate based on leaks like some recently revealed Assassin’s Creed Mirage concept art.

In a new tweet from Codex, an Assassin’s Creed fansite, it’s been revealed that Assassin’s Creed Mirage has reportedly undergone production changes and will now be arriving later than expected. The rumor, which came from French gaming magazine Jeux Video, suggests that Basim’s solo outing will now be the launch title for Assassin’s Creed Infinity rather than the previously announced Assassin’s Creed Red. Though details about Assassin’s Creed Infinity remain scarce, it’s been revealed that the platform will serve both as a launcher for upcoming Assassin’s Creed titles and as the home for the series’ modern-day storyline.

Twitter users responding to the post were divided over the rumors, with some worried that the delay could be the result of meddling from executives rather than taking additional time to ensure Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a polished title. Showing just how aware the gaming public has become of the ongoing problem of oppressive crunch time hours at developers, one respondent stated that they don’t mind delays “as long as the devs have a comfortable worklife.” Not everyone was disappointed by the potential delay, though, with one response stating that were still excited about the game and were hoping that Ubisoft was using the time to increase the scope of the game.

While the possibility of having to wait longer to dive into the adventures of the assassin Basim in Assassin’s Creed Mirage is sure to be unwelcome news for some franchise fans, it remains to be seen whether these rumors are correct or just speculation. Whatever the case, it’s clear that some fans will be more than happy to wait as long as Assassin’s Creed Mirage lives up to the lofty legacy of its predecessors.

Assassin's Creed Mirage releases in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Take all the time they need. Don't need another origins mess with the game not progressing at launch.
