Diablo 4 Teases Another Beta Ahead Of June Release

Blizzard is teasing what could be another beta test coming to Diablo 4 ahead of the game's June release.

Speaking to a fan on Twitter who demanded more Diablo 4 after complaining of "withdrawal" following last month's beta, the official Diablo account responded: "That can be arranged." On top of that, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra responded with a searching eyes gif.

If that's not enough to suggest another beta test is coming, Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson teased a "secret announcement" will be revealed during today's 90-minute deep-dive video (via VGC). Community manager Adam Fletcher confirmed the video will examine Diablo 4's endgame activities (something that Blizzard has spent a lot of resources on) as well as class and dungeon stats from last month's beta.

"Wait, wait, wait..." Fergusson wrote, "Is this the one with the secret announcement or are we not talking about that yet? I would hate to give it away. BTW so glad I'm using Slack right now and not something public like Twitter to ask that. That would be the worst."

Once again, Fergusson responded with a shifty-eyed gif.

Diablo 4's March beta and early access weekends were a huge success. According to Blizzard, players spent 61.5 million hours in Sanctuary, killed almost 30 billion monsters, and died nearly 47 million times. There were also over 10 million player deaths caused by Ashava, and over half a million deaths caused by the new-and-improved Butcher.

Of course, there were problems with the beta as well. Server issues prevented a lot of players from even accessing the game, while a technical glitch caused a few Nvidia GPUs to brick themselves. Let's hope that the next beta has this thorny issue figured out before it goes live.

Outside the beta, Blizzard has been revealing more info about Diablo 4's future plans. Chief among them is a battle pass system that will provide players with both paid and free reward tracks that will take roughly 80 hours to play through. Seasons will last three months, which has some players concerned they won't have enough time to get through the entire battle pass.

Diablo 4's generous respecc system will make it into the final game, and there will be plenty of end-game activities for players to sink their teeth into once they've crushed the main campaign. One of them is the PvP-centric Fields of Hatred, which is a sort of grand melee where players go up against both monsters and each other. It's "not designed to be fair," either, so don't expect fancy duels where there's a gentleman's agreement to avoid using potions.

Diablo 4 arrives on June 6. Oh, and it's also just gone gold, for those who still care about such things.
