Star Wars Jedi Survivor Will Have Settlement Mechanics

4.1
The preview embargo for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has just lifted, and thus, a bunch of new information about the highly anticipated title has come to light, one of the most intriguing tidbits being that, as per the PlayStation blog, the game will feature some level of "town-building mechanics."

As had been previously relayed by IGN, one of the game's initial planets, Koboh, will function as a hub for the player where they'll constantly return to as the story progresses. Koboh has been described as a "vast open world" that will allow for a lot of free-form exploration. As players unlock new abilities, they'll be able to access new areas in Koboh, which is one of the reasons they'll have to return.

But another reason is a town within the planet called Rambler's Reach, which will seemingly function as a base for Cal in his fight against the Empire, featuring vendors to purchase from and NPCs to interact with. The blog post states that players will be able to invite people from across the galaxy to join the town "to help with repairs or even to be a DJ." Doing so will help the lives of the locals, and could possibly even yield some benefits for Cal along the way.

Furthermore, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will seemingly feature settlement mechanics, or as the blog post described it, "town-building mechanics." The details are unfortunately scarce beyond the fact that players will be able to "plant gardens." We'll have to wait and see if changing the terrain or structures of Rambler's Reach is a possibility, as it is in many settlement-focused games.

The simple addition of any sort of town-building mechanic shows that the game is clearly looking to expand quite a lot from its predecessor, Fallen Order. Producer Paul Hatfield explained to VGC that each department of the development studio, Respawn Entertainment, had a "bucket list" of things they couldn't get into Fallen Order and wanted to include in Survivor. He said it was a balance to make sure everything remained polished, but they wanted everyone to execute on their bucket list.
