It is safe to assume that the development team had issues creating the port, as it had already been confirmed last year that the game was going to release for Switch. Before that, the first official announcement was made during the Nintendo Direct in 2021, but Annapurna Interactive delayed the port indefinitely without further notice. Given that a concrete release window has never been specified, a lot of fans had rightly given up on the Switch version.
Outer Wilds is a critically-acclaimed space mystery game about a solar system trapped in a time loop. Players take on the role of the newest recruit of Outer Wilds Ventures, which functions as a space program to find answers about the evolving solar system. They work to figure out the structure of this mysterious system while exploring hidden locations that alter with the passage of time. Additionally, players pilot their spaceship to traverse planet surfaces to find aliens, solving mind-bending puzzles as they go.
Before venturing into space, players must ready their hiking boots and oxygen level. They can use different gadgets to probe their surroundings while following mysterious signals. The Archeologist edition rated by ESRB includes the Echoes of the Eye DLC, in which players will investigate an anomaly detected by the Hearthian space program. It includes a new museum exhibit that lets players explore the darkest secrets of space. The DLC also introduces three new endings to the game, which had already come with several ending options.
Outer Wilds was released to an overwhelmingly positive reception back in 2021, with thousands of players naming it in their best games of the decade lists. The single-player exploration game is already available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
