New Dragon Ball: Budokai Tenkaichi Game Announced

3.7
A new entry in the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series was confirmed to be in development during the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour finals on Sunday. Bandai Namco has released a flashy teaser that showcases Goku evolving into his Super Saiyan Blue form, hinting that the game will include one of the long-protagonist's strongest forms.

The Dragon Ball franchise pursues new materials like other widely-known Japanese franchises, including Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Pokémon, and Naruto. After nearly two decades, one of the fan-favourite series in Dragon Ball Z history will have a successor that will likely include modern Super Saiyan Blue forms for Goku. In the midst of a revival with a new entry in the anime and a feature film, the Dragon Ball franchise is going strong and diehard fans are sure to be pleased.

There is no release date or window for the new Dragon Ball game just yet, with the short teaser only confirming that it is now in early production. The trailer has also DBZ fans excited by showcasing throwback footage and Goku evolving into Super Saiyan Blue form, which was last seen in a Budokai Tenkaichi game 16 years ago. It is uncertain which platforms this untitled game will be available for. Due to the long wait between releases, fans know little about the involvement of Toei Animation and Bird Studio in the project - the companies that own the rights to the Dragon Ball franchise.

The Budokai Tenkaichi franchise consists of three Dragon Ball games, all of which sparked from a revolution in what an anime game could bring to the fighting genre. The latest entry in the series, which was released 16 years ago, is still viewed as one of the best in Dragon Ball games ever. Bandai Namco has adapted these games to a Tekken-like fighting style over the years, as Budokai Tenkaichi 3 contributed to the rise of anime games with a wide array of playable characters and their transformations.

There are many details about Budokai Tenkaichi 4 left to be revealed, but fans will likely hear more about the game in the near future.
