Dead Space Remake Making Helpful Quality of Life Change

3.7
The upcoming Dead Space remake is changing the in-game map from a 3D model to a simpler 2D map to make it easier for players to find their way around the USG Ishimura ship. As far as video game remakes go, the Dead Space remake seems to be mostly faithful to the source material, though it is also making some rather notable changes that will hopefully result in a worthwhile redo of the original survival-horror game.

Most of the changes in the Dead Space remake seem like they are going to be well-received by fans of the franchise. For instance, the Dead Space remake is giving Isaac a voice, and it is also vastly improving the graphics when compared to the 2008 original. Some of the changes, like the decision to change Isaac's face, may prove to be more controversial, but fans will have to wait for the game to be out to be sure.

When the Dead Space remake does come out, fans should find it a little easier to navigate than the 2008 game. Speaking to Inverse, Dead Space remake developer Joel MacMillan acknowledged that the original game had a frustrating 3D map that was difficult to control and understand quickly. The map of the USG Ishimura in the Dead Space remake will be 2D instead of 3D "to improve the clarity and the readability of it." While the Dead Space remake is advancing the technology in the game forward in every other aspect, it seems dialing the map back will actually make it more user-friendly.

Dead Space fans will likely appreciate this change, and luckily, they will soon get to see how it impacts the final product. The Dead Space remake has gone gold, meaning it's wrapped development and is very unlikely to suffer from any additional release date delays. The Dead Space remake should be in the hands of survival-horror fans by the end of January, giving them the chance to relive the iconic sci-fi horror adventure with modern graphics and other bells and whistles.

There is hope that the Dead Space franchise will be revitalized if the remake is popular enough, so it will be interesting to see how fans react to it. Most of the changes seem to be focused on improving the player's experience or enhancing what was already there, and besides the changes made to Isaac's face, it's hard to see how any of the changes will be controversial. Expectations are high going into the Dead Space remake's release date, and now it's just a matter of if EA and Motive can stick the landing.

Dead Space launches January 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.

I gotta say, I played the game so long ago I don't even remember the 3D map. 2D maps are generally easier to navigate though

CalicoReidso sounds like it's going to be a great remake, as it should

To be honest, even though it's described as a remake in this article, it seems more of a remaster to me
