PlayStation Plus Games For January 2023 Officially Announced

4.8
PlayStation has officially announced the PlayStation Plus monthly lineup for January 2023, which includes two cross-platform games and one last-gen title. The action-adventure Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the indie Metroidvania Axiom Verge 2 will come in both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions, while Fallout 76 for PS4 also will be available to subscribers. The three titles will be available for all subscription tiers on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Considering Fallen Order's sequel: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is releasing next March, there is no better time than now to play the original game and prepare for the upcoming adventure. The two games tell the story of Cal Kestis, a Jedi Knight who survived the Galactic Empire's Great Jedi Purge after the events of Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.

Fallen Order's PS5 version comes with two modes: Performance Mode (4K resolution/30 FPS) and Graphics Mode (1440p resolution/60 FPS), giving players the choice in how they experience their adventure. The upcoming sequel, Survivor, will give players a wider variety of lightsaber techniques and force abilities, so this Plus edition also acts as a good sneak preview of what's in store for players in March. There's no word yet on what performance modes Survivor will launch with, if any at all.

Axiom Verge 2 by developer Thomas Happ is a standalone prequel to the original Axiom Verge, and the two can be played in either order, but players will enjoy a lot of connections in terms of lore and game mechanics if they play both games. The gameplay borrows many elements from classic Metroidvania games such as Metroid, Contra, and Blaster Master, and it includes a multitude of hidden areas to explore and bosses to overcome over two parallel dimensions: the earth 'Overworld' dimension and the digital 'Breach' dimension, requiring players to move between both worlds to progress, similar to The Messenger's past and future eras.

Fallout 76 is a game that has certainly come a long way since its initial release, and 2022 has been a good year in particular thanks to a voluminous content roadmap with rewards, seasons and updates all year round. The game is also expected to continue running for at least five more years (per the developer's interview with Ausgamers), so there is no better time than now to join the online journey. For those unaware, PlayStation has a dedicated Spotify playlist that gets refreshed each month with soundtracks from the subscription selections and the trials catalog, so players should also be on the look for new Spotify songs each month, too.
