Fortnite Players Can Play the Original Map in Creative

Fortnite fans now have access to a recreation of the game's original map, available in Creative Mode. It's been years since the game's first map was playable, and it's become a source of nostalgia for many fans. Now some enthusiastic and talented creators have brought it back to life, but they didn't just stop with the map, as other original Fortnite content has been promised as well.

Over the years since its release, in 2017, the Fortnite map has gone through many changes. Regular updates have tweaked the battleground, adding, changing, or even destroying many places of interest. Natural disasters or world events have caused massive change, adding whole new biomes to a certain area, or sometimes the entire map for a time. The partnership with Marvel has also influenced the world, players seeing locations like the Daily Bugle, the newspaper from Spider-Man, pop up. At the beginning of each new "Chapter," of which the game is on its third currently, Fortnite has also received entirely new maps.

Creative Mode in Fortnite is a robust tool for users to build their own maps with distinct rules, and to share their work with other fans.TikTok account nostalgiafocus shared a clip announcing their newest creation: a rebuilt, original Fortnite map, complete with original graphics. Nostalgiafocus is also the name of their Support-A-Creator account in the game, something that's required to use Creative Mode. The short video introduces the classic map, showing some original locales, and states that it will come with all game's original weapons as well. Plus, the creators have slowed down turbo building, an addition that was added several years ago which dramatically changed how quickly characters could build.

The majority of commenters were excited at the prospect of getting to play what promises to be an accurate recreation of the first map, as it's been something much of the community has been asking for. Although at one point the original Fortnite map returned as a skin, the actual battle map never got a re-release from the developers. Despite the excitement and well-wishes from most, some commenters were less enthused, saying that the old map may be back, but the feel of the original game would still be lost forever.

Players have leveraged this mode to build a whole host of incredible creations, be they entirely different games, or homages to other franchises. One Fortnite player built Peach's Castle from Mario 64. Nostalgiafocus themselves made several other maps, including SpongeBob Squarepants' house, and a Rocket League-style game.

Fortnite's Creative Mode is a huge part of what makes the game special. Despite it receiving less widespread attention than the wildly popular battle royale mode, Creative remains a wonderful tool, and a big draw for many fans. And without it, the original map could very well have been lost forever.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
