PlayStation Exclusive is Flopping on PC

4.2
Sackboy: A Big Adventure isn't doing well on PC compared to other PlayStation exclusives that have made the jump, at least when it comes to its Steam release. Sackboy: A Big Adventure was a cross-gen PS5 launch title when Sony's new console released in 2020, earning mostly positive reviews and hailed as a solid co-op platformer. Nearly two years after its initial release on PlayStation consoles, Sackboy: A Big Adventure has made its way to PC.

The Sackboy: A Big Adventure PC port is the latest PlayStation exclusive to come to PC. While Sony used to keep its titles strictly available on its consoles, it has experimented with bringing some of its big games to PC in recent years. Some of the more high profile PlayStation to PC ports include the 2018 God of War, Spider-Man Remastered, and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, with more planned for the future.

PlayStation games have enjoyed some deal of success on PC, which is why Sony is investing resources into bringing more of its biggest titles to the platform. However, Sackboy: A Big Adventure doesn't appear to be enjoying the same kind of success as the PlayStation games that preceded it. Sackboy: A Big Adventure has been available on PC since October 27, but as pointed out by Push Square (based on data from SteamDB), the game's concurrent player count peaked at just 610 players. For comparison, God of War's PC port had over 73,000 players at its peak. At the time of its writing, Sackboy: A Big Adventure is in dead last when it comes to concurrent players on Steam.

This seems to be a good indication that Sackboy: A Big Adventure is flopping on PC. It is possible, though unlikely, that the game is generating a great deal more interest on the Epic Games Store or that it's sold more copies on Steam than its concurrent player count suggests. There could be a number of reasons why Sackboy: A Big Adventure is seemingly struggling to find an audience on PC compared to other PlayStation exclusives, with two explanations in particular standing out.

The most obvious explanation is that there are simply fewer PC gamers interested in Sackboy: A Big Adventure compared to other PlayStation to PC exclusives. 3D platformers don't have a significant presence in the PC gaming space, and Sackboy is unlikely to change that. Another possibility is that there is too much competition right now. The industry is in the middle of the fall gaming rush, and Sackboy on PC released a mere day ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, likely to be the best-selling game of the year when it's all said and done.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure is available on PC, PS4, and PS5.
