Final Fantasy 7 Remake Not Designed To Replace The Original

4
After a long (long) wait, the first episode of the remake of Final Fantasy 7 has gone gold. Those who have been anticipating this are surely rubbing their hands together and licking their lips. But, as always, it’s important to look back at why people are looking forward to this to begin with. It all comes down to love of that original PlayStation release that came out back in 1997. And the game’s Director wants you to always keep a place in your heart for it, too.

In an interview with Famitsu, Director Tetsuya Nomura says he doesn’t want Final Fantasy 7 Remake to overwrite the original game. Instead, he wants fans to remember, and casual fans to know, that game is the origin of it all and to think of them side-by-side with nostalgia for older fans and an incredible journey for new fans (thanks to Twinfinite for translations).

Nomura clearly has admiration for the original, since he designed the remake’s combat to keep it in mind. It’ll be a nostalgic journey, for sure, when Final Fantasy 7 Remake releases as a timed-exclusive for PlayStation 4 on April 10th.
