H1Z1 developer Daybreak Studios has reportedly laid off up to 70 employees (mostly in its Austin location) in an effort to restructure the company.

Known for developing and publishing titles such as H1Z1, PlanetSide 2, and more, Daybreak Studios has carved out some intriguing niches with its titles over the years. However it appears in the state of the games industry being incredibly volatile, unfortunately Daybreak is another studio that has undergone layoffs recently.

According to a report from Variety, Daybreak Studios appears to have undergone layoffs as a result of company restructuring, with potentially 70 employees having been let go from the company, according to the Daybreak’s former president John Smedley in several tweets.

In a statement to Variety, a Daybreak spokesperson shared more on the circumstances regarding the layoffs:

“We are optimizing our structure to ensure we best position ourselves for continued success in the years to come. This effort has required us to make some changes within the organization and we are doing everything we can to support those impacted in this difficult time. As we look to improve efficiencies and realign resources, we remain focused on supporting our existing games and development of our future titles.”
