Nintendo’s trademark filing could mean a Nintendo 64 mini is coming
NeoGAF user Rosti revealed Nintendo has recently filed trademarks for several of its controllers, including the NES, the SNES, the Switch, and the Nintendo 64 on the European Union Intellectual Property Office website. The controllers were filed under goods and services, which points to a physical version of the controllers being the crux of the patents. Before the NES and SNES Classic Editions announcements, similar trademarks were found, leading to further speculation a Nintendo 64 version of the Classic Edition is on its way.
Granted, the filing could be for the future development of the Switch, as the upcoming Virtual Console for the system could allow for revamped controllers to be used. Regardless, Nintendo fans would be ecstatic to get their hands on a plug-and-play version of the console that introduced classics like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64.
While the NES and SNES Classic Editions sold well, hopefully Nintendo will take a different approach to production with the possible Nintendo 64 Classic, as the current SNES models are being scalped online for extreme prices. Nintendo apparently tried to remedy the shortage of NES consoles by creating a Super Famicom Mini in Japan, thus giving two versions of the SNES generation, as well as upping overall production. However, no numbers have shown the difference in available units between the NES and SNES systems.

A Nintendo 64 mini would be interesting to see and I'm sure something my parents could kind of relate to.

I would like this, I'm a nostalgic seeker so them recycling old content doesn't bother me, I could play remastered games for the rest of my life honestly if they kept spitting good ones out

Nintendo 64 mini - just sounds like a waste of money and if this does come to plan. I will not be getting it, these devs sometimes are clueless and we need something "new"

OMG_IM_JOKIN This is the reason why I hate gaming in general now. All they do is recycle old content like they cannot make anything new or innovative. If you become a dev then your mind set is to make something that no one has ever had before while making it like nothing before it. Milking the product that we had 21 years ago because they cannot think of anything better. This is the reason I do not trust these devs lately. IMO this needs to stop.
Well in my opinion, game developers nowadays are making new ideas to milk which I personally don't appreciate. Just look at No Man's Sky. Everyone was hyped and they threw around so many buzzwords such as "open world," "procedurally generated," "indie," and other nonsense such as that. I personally hate newer indie games because everyone just buys them based solely by the fact that it's a indie game, not for the actual game itself. Super meat boy felt like a boring flash game and hated how everyone liked it because it wasn't developed by big name company but a small group of individuals. I would rather take a triple A title than an indie game because I know the triple A title will have more substance to it.
