But the company remains firm, insisting that it has a killer line-up of games planned for E3 in a couple of months for both the Xbox One and Project Scorpio – and there’s apparently more where that came from.
And to reiterate its strength in the first-party development game, Xbox boss Phil Spencer, speaking with the Guardian, has noted that the company is hard at work investing more in first-party based games for both systems. He noted, "Right now the focus is really on the content that we're building. I know I get some community pushback on our first-party [slate], and what position we're in, and I want to say to people: that same level of commitment you felt from myself and from the team as we've evolved platform over the last three years--as we've evolved service over the last three years, as we've evolved and innovated hardware over the last three years--is going on with our first party. I don't want to go and pre-announce a bunch of things, but we are upping our investment, there's no doubt about that."
It sounds like the company does have some big surprises lined up for E3 over the next few weeks, although big franchises like Halo and Gears of War are currently off the table, with no new sequels set for announcement. That means the company will likely lean heavily on its forthcoming Forza Motorsport 7 and Crackdown 3, as well as whatever else it has lined up on its plate.
Microsoft is going to need a lot, too, because both Nintendo and Sony have some big exclusives planned for their Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, respectively, and E3 will be all about keeping up the pace. Here’s hoping that it’s ready to “bring it” when it comes to exclusive games that will take advantage of both the Xbox One and Project Scorpio.
