This is according to Jason Stettner of Gamer Headquarters, who claims to have spoken with a Far Cry 5 developer at E3 2017. Apparently, Far Cry 5 is being “heavily optimized” for PS4 and PS4 Pro, partly because the team hasn’t received Xbox One X dev kits. Even so, Far Cry 5 is being advertised for Xbox One X, so one has to imagine that the team will get their hands on a dev kit sooner rather than later.
If it’s true that the Far Cry 5 development team hasn’t received Xbox One X dev kits, that seems like an odd decision on the part of Microsoft. After all, the main selling point of the Xbox One X is its ability to play games at native 4K resolution, and it is being pushed as the machine that will give players the best possible experience on consoles. However, if developers aren’t given enough time to work with it, then they may not have time to take full advantage of the hardware.
Even if Far Cry 5 doesn’t take full advantage of the Xbox One X’s added horsepower, the game should still be impressive on the console, and any console it’s played on, for that matter. Far Cry 5‘s E3 2017 gameplay trailer was met positively by the gaming community, showcasing the typical open world gameplay elements that fans have come to expect from the series.
