This is a quick and simple tutorial on how to customise your windows 7 logon screen to an image of your choice.

What you need:
A .JPG image which is the resolution of your monitor and is under 256KB.

A user account with administrator privelages

Step 1: RegEdit

Open the start menu, and type "RegEdit". Click on RegEdit and click OK to the box confirming you are an administrator.

In RegEdit, right click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, click find, and type in "OEMBackground"

Right click the OEMBackground setting, and change the value from "0" to "1"

Step 2: Creating the location to put your desired image.

Navigate to the following directory:

C:\windows\system32\oobe\


In this folder, you will want to create a new folder called "info" (If it doesn't already exist).

Inside of this folder, create a new folder called "backgrounds"

Inside of this folder, you can place your background image. This image MUST be a .JPG, and MUST be under 256KB.

When you have placed the image in this folder, rename it to "backgroundDefault" (Case Sensitive).

And you're done. To test to see if your image has been set, just hold the windows key and press L. This will lock your computer to the logon screen, previewing your background.
