Each chapter has 3 regular missions and a boss mission. Occasionally you will have to escort a bomber in a mission but this is primarily for extra medals and has no bearing on the success of a mission.

The regular missions are straightforward so I've created a video of each chapter's boss, in case you're having trouble with that.

Chapter 1's boss is very straightforward and shouldn't cause you too much trouble, regardless of how well-upgraded you are (odds are you've yet to upgrade anything at all and that shouldn't be a problem). Just dodge his bullets and lay into the targets when you can and he'll go down very quickly.
