Getting Started

The first time you start Playroom you're guided through how to set up the PlayStation Camera. For additional information on setting up your camera, please read this article.

If you already have a camera plugged in and are told to plug the camera in after you choose the "I have a camera option": Push the PS button and quit Playroom. Verify the camera is plugged-in correctly, and restart Playroom.

The brief onscreen tutorial is followed by the Controller Check. This demonstrates the DualShock 4's light bar, rumble, motion capabilities, speaker, and more.

After the Controller Check is done, you'll be asked to rub the DS4's touch pad. This summons a friendly robot named Asobi and concludes the initial set up phase.

Playroom Modes
There are five options available in the Playroom. You can scroll through the modes with the controller's touch pad. To start a play mode click the DS4's touch pad. To exit a play mode press the Options button and choose the option to return to the main menu.

The five Playroom options are:

Play with Asobi: Asobi is a friendly, somewhat-sensitive flying robot that loves attention. You can pet it, tickle its sensors, or just brighten its day by letting it see your face. Experiment with Asobi to discover additional ways to interact.

AR Bots: Swipe up on the DS4's touch pad to unleash a horde of AR Bots who will react to your on-camera actions. Swipe-happy players may discover they can even conjure a giant rubber duck.

If you have a PS Vita connected to the PS4 you can draw simple shapes on the PS Vita and flick them onto the PS4's screen. The AR Bots will then play with your creations.

AR Hockey: You must have two players to play AR Hockey. This is a futuristic motion-controlled take on Pong. The rules are simple: Hit the ball with your bumper and score more goals than your opponent to win.

Controller Check: Choose this option to replay the Controller Check that occurs the first time you use Playroom. This demonstrates the DualShock 4's light bar, rumble, motion capabilities, speaker, and more.
