AMD is expected to rake in $1.5 billion in revenue from three new products, described as “design wins”. AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, told investors that the new products should bring in the revenue over the next three to four years, starting in the second-half of 2016. Earlier this month, we got more information on a new PlayStation console. Now, with AMD suggesting they'll begin to get a revenue from these new products in the second-half of the year, it's plausible to suggest that the new PlayStation will go on sale in time for Christmas, and get a mention at this year's E3.

In the investor call, Su said that at least one of the products would not start to be manufactured until 2017, suggesting that one of the next-gen gaming consoles won't be out until then. When questioned about specifics, Lisa Su said: “I don't believe that we've gone through any detail about what those wins are so I would prefer to let that come out as our customers are ready to launch.”

“In addition [to the new design wins] we have our current game console business as well,” AMD's CEO said. “So when you look at the aggregate of that, we do expect to start ramping that new business in the second half of the year. But we also expect the seasonal uplift of our traditional game console business, So that's adding to what we expect will be a strong year for Semi-Custom overall.”

With AMD's CEO calling the hardware “design wins” it could mean they are intended to be included in a number of different high-profile products, including next-generation consoles. All of the major current-generation consoles - including Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U - use AMD technology. The E3 gaming conference is one of the biggest events of the year, this year it is due to take place between June 14-16 in Los Angeles. We should hear from Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo at the event, who may or may not announce details about their upcoming consoles.
