Gears Of War 4 Will Include Microtransactions

4.3
Xbox One exclusive Gears of War 4 will include in-game purchases for cosmetic items. Players will collect cards that offer character customization, and have no affect on gameplay.

In an interview with GameSpot, The Coalition studio head Rod Fergusson explained the process. "I feel like that paradigm of cards is really clear to understand for collectibles, like the ability to collect things. We had weapon skins and character skins, so that idea of collecting cards is just easily understood," Fergusson said.

The cards come in crates—and have different rarity levels—which Fergusson said adds some "engagement" to collecting. He likened the process to buying Magic: The Gathering booster packs. "If I could just buy the one card I want then I'm out, then you lose it, right?"

Crates can be earned through through play, too - using real money is totally optional. Fergusson said. "We're going to be balanced where you're going to be constantly getting crates, or enough credits to get crates through the game, so it really is just about your choice."

GearzyTV Maybe Epic should consider the mobile gaming industry instead.

Maybe next time you should take the time to actually read the post instead of commenting >_>

I honestly don't mind that they've added microtransactions. The way they are doing it doesn't effect gameplay at all. It's all cosmetic. Whereas in CoD you get guns and shit.

Can't wait to get my hands on the beta this Monday. Finally going to get back into Gears! :D

His comment made sense.
Micro-transactions have no place in a 60$ triple A game whether its cosmetic or not.

Optional cosmetic microtransactions have been in games since 360 days it's nothing new, move along people.

Honestly, if it's just cosmetics then they should just be unlockable in game via finishing levels, objectives, if you go back to the ps2, regular xbox, gameboy advance days, they would always sell the full game at a set price no microtransactions whatsoever, games then were more high quality than games today, now it's just like every game HAS to have microtransactions for the company to get that extra money

They are all unlockable in the game by leveling and gaining "credits". Paying will only allow you to unlock more at a time. It's like what Bo3 and Halo are doing.

And I do want to confirm that you do not need to buy DLC. It is all free. Only time you will need to buy the dlc is if you want to host a private match on said DLC maps.

Lost I really don't like micro transactions. I feel like companies are too reliant on them now and don't give you a full product when selling a game because they can charge you for extra stuff down the line.

From what I was told in the GearsofWar twitch stream they'll be offering free DLC, You'll only need it if you want to host a private match. Otherwise if you play online you'll have the maps. Idk how much of that is true but we'll see in about 20 minutes when the stream actually starts.

So basically these COSMETIC microtransactions will be the supply of funds for the DLC in a sense.

I hope this isn't going to be a "Play to win" game now

Halo I hate microtransactions, don't even like how H5 has em. But oh well, nothing we could do.. except not buy em.

It was good in H5 as the 2.5 million HCS event was crowd funded via req packs
