Quantum Break Has A Hilarious DRM On PC For Dealing With Pirates

4.5
Quantum Break is now officially available on the Windows 10 store and Xbox One. This is the first game by Remedy Entertainment after they released Alan Wake American Nightmare for the Xbox 360 and PC. It is a completely new IP and an ambitious project that takes the cinematic spectacle of a TV Show and mixes it with gameplay segments. Remedy Entertainment are well known for their easter egg for Alan Wake on PC, which gave the main character an eye patch of a pirate. This same easter egg appears to be in effect on PC and it can be triggered if the game is started without logging into the Windows 10 Store.

The result is pretty much the same as seen in Alan Wake.

While Alan Wake could be pirated on PC, Quantum Break is still not hacked and can only be bought legally through the Windows 10 store. In this case here, it appears to be a simple glitch due to the users not logging into their Windows 10 store account when playing the game. The official FAQ also lists this as a bug.

Q:Jack looks like a pirate.
A: DRM might’ve accidentally triggered.
Reboot the game and eat a lot of vitamin C.

I really quite enjoy this game

Like the eye patch more, might have to torrent the game.

This is brilliant, a nice little thing put in by the devs to deter piracy

This is really clever for the devs to do this although people will definitely find a way around it.

Actually looks like a decent game, might go download it

before adding "funny" things to the pc version they should make sure it works properly and isn't a mess of a port.

FreshwafflePosted:

Quantum Break was such garbage, the devs anticipated alot of people to pirate it.

I actually quite enjoy quantum break.

Game devs should do this more often.

People are joking around saying this is the equivalent to modern day DLC.

Quite amusing piracy "prevention" tactic. Other games have done much more severe things to prevent piracy such as making the game unplayable/unbeatable, so it's nice to see a humorous side to it.
