Background music feature coming to Xbox One this summer

4.6
Lots of Microsoft-related news surfacing today, some of it pertaining to Xbox. If you haven't heard, Phil Spencer took the stage at BUILD 2016 today, talking about Universal Windows Apps progress on Xbox, Cortana on Xbox One and that Xbox Ones are capable of becoming dev kits. Perhaps the average gamer won't be all that excited about these announcements and, if that's the case, they'll be happy to know there's one big feature that was mentioned on day one of BUILD 2016.

Microsoft has finally confirmed it's bringing the background music feature to the Xbox One this summer. Instead of relying on game soundtracks, it will be possible to play your own music instead. This feature has been one of the most-requested features for the Xbox One since the console was released back in 2013.

Phil Spencer mentioned that Microsoft was interested in bringing the popular feature from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One late last year, but since the Xbox division's focus on holiday sales and support was priority #1 there wouldn't be any real news until sometime after the new year. It's likely that the background music feature will roll out to Xbox One consoles around the same time Microsoft pushes its Windows 10 anniversary update.

Mickers For such a simple thing, it's about time.

Yeah exactly. It can already be done though. For example, I use the MP3 port on my Astro MixAmp while playing games. I can listen to game audio, music and voice all at the same time. I can also fine tune the levels and EQ of each type.

I'm not wasting money on something like that just to listen to music tho, LOL

Will be a great feature, too often i wanna be listening to music through the same sound system, rather than on a separate set of sub/speakers when playing single player games.
