Black Ops is Activision’s ‘biggest investment’ ever

4.4
Activision’s Call of Duty franchise is one of the biggest properties in all of videogames, so it comes as no surprise that the publisher is treating the follow-up to Modern Warfare 2 like the AAA release it so surely is.

During Activision’s second quarter earnings call this week, CEO Bobby Kotick went on record saying Call of Duty: Black Ops represents the company’s largest ever marketing investment.

“This across the board is the biggest investment that we’ve ever made in a launch of a title,” the executive told investors. “The market opportunity is bigger than it’s ever been. The installed base of hardware is bigger than it’s ever been.”

That probably means enough television, print, and online ads to annoy us into buying the game.

In all seriousness, I love the Call of Duty series. The games are pure shooter fun, and Black Ops is entering an era not-yet touched upon by previous games (no more World War II!!). Anyone else excited?

im almost certain there is a cold war era game already, but i believe it sucked. i personally liked the WW2 games really well. i saw the trailer for this, and im afraid it looks a LOT like MW2. there is no dismemberment. =(

This game will make or break the series. And judging on the multiplayer teaser, looks like there won't be any more Call of Duty after this.
