Nintendo Is Officially Looking Into VR

4.6
Just last year, Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime was dismissive of the current wave of VR devices, stating that VR as it stood now was not something Nintendo was too interested in, because it was ‘not social enough.’ However, it seems as though the company has changed its stance, and is now considering VR pretty seriously.

According to games industry analyst Serkan Toto (via Develop Online), Nintendo confirmed that it was ‘looking into’ VR at their recent financial meeting. They mentioned VR alongside smartphone games as opportunities that they were exploring, which means that there is a very real chance that the company may be seriously considering charting a VR strategy of some sort.

Although this does imply that the NX is not VR (since it’s coming soon, and this makes it seem like they only just recently started considering VR), it also seems like they have decided that VR may be something to look into going forward- which sounds exciting. Nintendo did so well with the polygonal 3D paradigm all those years ago with the Nintendo 64 in 1996. What kinds of games could they make with VR?

TaigaAisaka VR would actually suit a lot of Nintendo games. Mario Kart in VR? Yes please. Star Fox in VR? Yes please. The next Metroid Prime series in VR? Yes please. Pokemon in VR? Yes please. Even though I'm a PC gamer, the next Nintendo console I plan to get because it's looking like it has some true potential, especially if VR comes out on it eventually.

I have to agree honestly. I don't really care much for Nintendo in most cases, but there are a lot of games they produce that I would LOVE to see in VR. I can honestly say Star Fox and Pokemon would be awesome additions to the VR world should this actually become a thing.

Hopefully it's not as big of a flop as some of their last products have been.

I think Nintendo should put their focus completely into mobile gaming. I still see the WiiU as a flop, and I think they should stop wasting money on it. They should focus on mobile applications, as well as revamp their mobile consoles. If people still want to play on their TV, Nintendo can release a casting device that will cast the screen of the mobile device (DS). I think VR will be a waste until the technology is more advanced

Pro I reckon Nintendo will come out of nowhere with something amazing, they have been pretty quiet for a while!
