Half-Life 3 won’t be a VR game, says Valve

4.6
Valve’s Chet Faliszeck spoke at EGX today and of course someone asked him about Half-Life 3.

In a Q&A session following his talk on VR, one member of the audience cheekily asked if Half-Life 3 would be a VR game.

“No,” he replied.

He then spoke about how VR headsets will not be going wireless anytime soon due to the bandwidth problems (two screens need to refresh 90 times a second, basically. You need cables for that).

When asked about the Half-Life 3 question again by the same person, he joked “I said ‘no’.”

Was it a serious question from the audience? We’ll, it was certainly genuine and we’ve all thought about it. But was it a serious answer?

When it comes to the near-mythical Half-Life 3, who knows.

I don't think this game would sell well.

fknvlink Honestly this surprised me. The half life games have always been about using some new form of technology and I am sure half life 3 will be the same.

I posted something on one of the news posts months ago about how I was sure it was going to be a vr game.

Maybe they will use a new form of graphics rendering rather than something strictly gameplay inovation.

TBH, I'd rather they didn't make it a VR only game. I think it'd annoy more people than they'd please, and with such a loved franchise, and an already irritated player base, that isn't something Valve wants to do. Infact, I bet they just want to conclude the entire series so they don't have this kind of pressure always on their shoulders.

The hype is almost too much to live up too, half-life 3 must be absolutely epic is it is to live up to the hype.

Maybe they should have asked "will half life 3 be a finished game?" Still would've gotten the same answer.
