New Xbox One backwards compatibility details

4.5
Microsoft has revealed several new details about how the upcoming Xbox One backwards compatibility feature will work.

During a demonstration today, the company confirmed Xbox One owners will be able to play older titles online with gamers who own an Xbox 360, and also explained a bit more about what functionality the games will have.

The Xbox button on the controller will take you to the soon-to-be-revamped Xbox One home screen, but pressing the View and Menu buttons simultaneously will bring up the old Xbox 360 guide replete with all its features. Screenshots and DVR support are also present.

As for why putting a disc in triggers a download, it was explained the system's design means all games must be partially on the hard drive to run. Also it's worth noting that while this is essentially software emulation, hardware won't be supported so old Rock Band peripherals and the like still won't work.

Finally, as a word of caution, when the system launches this Holiday it'll do so with over 100 titles, but publishers will need to give their permission for games to work. This does raise the question of whether those who've recently released HD Remasters will want to enable it right away but, for now, we'll have to wait and see.

redbaby92 I am really hoping they are able to get World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops 2 so I can play zombies with my friends again!

yeah right. After seeing that Microsoft needs publisher consent to be backwards compatable, I'm not thinking we'll ever see the old CoDs on our current consoles.

then we should start a petition, so that our voice gets heared.

:/ then vote on the forums then. Black ops 2 is currently number 2 and red dead redemption in number 1.........

Already voted since the voting opened!

Red redemption is a great fame

it doesn't matter unless your going to be playing only zombies, since your still playing on xbox 360 servers that means your still playing with people on the 360. therefore mods wil ruin online gameplay for those titles.

Unless it's like the 360's backwards compatability and you can only play offline? Can't watch the video atm so don't know if it was mentioned.

It'll be online they want you to be able to access features while still playing it.

You will still be able to play these games online

7yle_Jr I'd be very happy with MW3 and MW2 to use on the backwards compatibility, would be great to play on Xbox One with friends.
