New Xbox One backwards compatibility details

4.5
Microsoft has revealed several new details about how the upcoming Xbox One backwards compatibility feature will work.

During a demonstration today, the company confirmed Xbox One owners will be able to play older titles online with gamers who own an Xbox 360, and also explained a bit more about what functionality the games will have.

The Xbox button on the controller will take you to the soon-to-be-revamped Xbox One home screen, but pressing the View and Menu buttons simultaneously will bring up the old Xbox 360 guide replete with all its features. Screenshots and DVR support are also present.

As for why putting a disc in triggers a download, it was explained the system's design means all games must be partially on the hard drive to run. Also it's worth noting that while this is essentially software emulation, hardware won't be supported so old Rock Band peripherals and the like still won't work.

Finally, as a word of caution, when the system launches this Holiday it'll do so with over 100 titles, but publishers will need to give their permission for games to work. This does raise the question of whether those who've recently released HD Remasters will want to enable it right away but, for now, we'll have to wait and see.

Qwel I have a feeling they arent going to be releasing games that are multiplats, EX: I dont see CoD being on the list of backward compatible games. Although all the Halos I can see being on the list, all the fables etc.

I just want games like MW2 and the older cods.

Mw2 would still be full of hackers though

They wouldnt do Halo because they already have MCC, but they might do Reach

I will never imagine seeing Halo or Cod. Hell if they brought back MW2, or COD 4, not a lot of people would buy the new COD. It would take away from current generations. Now, unless Infinity Ward for example wants to take business away from Treyarch, they might. Really, I don't know if infinity has the option to say yes, or does it have to be Activision? They say developers, not publishers. So probably Infinity has the power. Same with Halo, because why lose the chance of people buying Halo 5 when they'd rather play H3

I see what youre saying but I only used CoD and Halo as to examples because they are still pretty popular games! I was trying to say in general multiplats wouldn't really make a whole lot of sense to me, especially since sony said they will not be taking apart of the backwards compatibility thing. Although I see your thoughts behind the whole "not a lot of people would buy the new COD" thing but honestly I could still see sales being pretty decent.. its a NEW game so I can see people still wanting to get it the sales might not be as high as usual but I can see alot of people still going to pick it up, and to add to that I would say a pretty hefty amount of people still own Mw2 and Cod4 already and if not I cant see them being more than 15 dollars at gamestop, so buying the new cod and an old cod wouldnt be that much money.
