Black Ops is its own man, draws nothing from Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Black Ops is Treyarch’s game and no copy of Modern Warfare 2. That’s according to studio head Mark Lamia who says that Black Ops‘ development happened completely independently, with nothing drawn from Infinity Ward’s 2009 blockbuster.

“We started Black Ops a year before Modern Warfare 2 came out. So we didn’t ask ourselves that question because they were making their game and we make our game,” Lamia’s told CVG. “We’re two totally different developments, two totally different creatives.”

“We obviously had a lot of confidence that Infinity Ward would make a great game but that game hadn’t come out yet so we couldn’t draw anything from it and weren’t going to.”

For Treyarch it was all about what they wanted to create, and that was “something new and fresh”.

Black Ops‘ goal is to “give players some variety, give people a reason to come back to Call of Duty and get some new experiences”.

Variety or not, the game is alredy expected to perform extremely well.
