Halo 5 co-op requires Xbox Live Gold

4.5
Halo 5 will require you and your BFF to cough up for Xbox Live Gold if you want to play co-op together.

Halo 5: Guardians got a big info blowout this month, and one of the more interesting bits of intel was word that you’d be able to play the co-op campaign without an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

This seemed like very good news as 343 Industries has ditched local co-op via splitscreen, meaning you have to go online to play with your buddy. Unfortunately, it’s not true.

Writing on Halo Waypoint executive producer Josh Holmes said he “misspoke when stating that online co-op campaign would be supported with an Xbox Live Silver account”.

“Co-op campaign will require Xbox Live Gold to play,” he confirmed.

After apologising, Holmes offered a partial solution:

“It is important to us that fans have the opportunity to play the full co-op campaign experience and we are doing this by providing a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial with Halo 5: Guardians,” he said.

That’s something, anyway. Halo 5: Guardians releases this November. Expect to see it at Microsoft’s E3 2015 conference at 9.30am PDT on June 16.

Xbox live is just xbox trying to shake money out of your pockets, you really don't need it now with the xbox one less you want a crap free game every month

That's what they said about elder scrolls online...

Sanctyy Well, this isn't really a surprise or a huge issue really? Of course, it'd be nice to see games offering co-op campaign for silver XBL members(or non-premium on whatever other console/system you use) though.

Yeah I would too, but it's always been like that, so not surprised here.

I dont understand why they had to announce this? Confusing as hell imo. All games require gold for online anything?
